🍀 St. Patty’s Day Fun in the Outdoors! 🌿🎨 Our first graders had a blast celebrating St. Patrick’s Day with hands-on outdoor fun! From checking their leprechaun traps to going on a shamrock hunt, their excitement and creativity were on full display. The fun didn’t stop there—students also enjoyed the outdoor kitchen, tackled the obstacle course, and let their creativity shine through painting with brushes and colored spray bottles. These activities not only spark joy but also help build problem-solving skills, teamwork, and a love for learning in nature. We love seeing our young learners explore, create, and grow! 🍀💚 #OutdoorLearning #StPatricksDayFun #HandsOnLearning #ExploringThroughPlay

🍁 4th Grade Sugar Bushing at the School Forest 🍁 Our 4th graders recently experienced the incredible tradition of maple tapping at the School Forest! This hands-on learning opportunity brought together School Forest Teachers and 4th Grade Teachers, working in partnership to connect students with both understanding how to measure the crown of a tree and the science of tree identification. 🌳🍂 During the experience, students: 🍁 Explored Ojibwe phenology, learning how seasonal changes signal the right time for tapping 🌲 Identified trees and gathered data to determine which were best for tapping 📏 Measured crown of a tree to ensure sustainable maple syrup production A huge thank you to our special guests from White Earth Education & Natural Resources for sharing their knowledge and guiding students through this process: ✨ Bob Shimek - WETCC Extension Offie ✨ Dana Trickey - White Earth 4H ✨ Jason Clark - White Earth Natural Resources Parks and Recreation ✨ Chris McDougall - White Earth Natural Resources Parks and Recreation Technician Since maple syrup production is rare and only possible in a few states, this was a unique and meaningful experience for our students. By blending cultural traditions with scientific exploration, we’re ensuring that future generations can continue to learn from and care for our forests. 🌿🍁 #MapleTapping #OutdoorLearning #SchoolForest #CulturalConnections #HandsOnEducation

🍁 8th Grade Sugar Bushing at the School Forest 🍁 Our 8th graders recently experienced the incredible tradition of maple tapping at the School Forest! This hands-on learning opportunity brought together School Forest Teachers and 8th Grade Teachers, working in partnership to connect students learning to standards in math and science to maple tapping. 🌳🍂 During the experience, students: 🍁 Took a sit spot moment, making 3 notices and 3 wonders, then framing one into a hypothesis 🌲 Applied ratios to estimate tree height 🌿 Examined the crown of trees, including those tapped by 5th graders 📏 Measured the volume of a tree, first reviewing instructions before heading out for hands-on calculations 🥾 Went on a nature walk, comparing coniferous and deciduous trees, observing competition in nature, and noting seasonal changes A huge thank you to our special guests from WETCC Extension Office & White Earth 4-H for sharing their knowledge and guiding students through this process: ✨ Bob Shimek - WETCC Extension Office ✨ Dana Trickey - White Earth 4-H Since maple syrup production is rare and only possible in a few states, this was a unique and meaningful experience for our students.
