Culture Camp: Lessons on the Seven Grandfather Teachings. Students learned about Bravery and Courage. In Ojibwe tradition, the virtue of bravery is represented by the Bear (Makwa). The bear teaches individuals how to find the inner power to face their fears, defend what is right, and navigate life's daily difficulties with conviction. They finished the lesson with a watercolor painting project

Over one week of Culture Camp has already passed. Students planted our vegetable garden and Stan from WETCC visited for the day to teach the students about planting and brought ode'imin or "heart berry". Students also brought their own ode'imin home. During camp students will be managing the garden and learning about the growing process.

Water Safety Class is being offered again this year for students ages 10-18. Monday, June 22nd. Leave the Waubun School at 8:30am and will be returning by 2:15pm. Students do not need to be enrolled in Culture Camp or Summer Rec to attend. Limited spots available. Sign up by June 18th. Permission forms must be returned in order to attend. Picnic Lunch and swimming!!!

The Thunderbirds Girls Softball team took on Sacred Heart in Red Lake Falls on Tuesday. The girls came in 4th and received medals! Great job ladies, we are so proud you!!

Congratulations to the Mahnomen/Waubun Thunderbirds Boys Golf team on winning the Section 8A Tournament!!!! The team of Blake McMullen, Dylan McMullen, Logan Abdo, Julian Giard-Lang, Blair Heisler and Thor Askelson shot a 2 day score of 654 beating 2nd place BGMR who shot 667. The Thunderbirds were 1 stroke behind starting today's rounds.
Congratulations to the Mahnomen/Waubun Thunderbirds Girls Golfers who qualified individually for state: Isabella Schlick, Leah Hlubek and McKenna Bjerk!!!
They now advance to the Class A State Tournament at Pebble Creek in Becker Minnesota for the 2 day event on June 9-10!!!

There are still spots left in the American Indian Education Program Culture Camp in June. Open to grades 4-9 and will run the same days as Summer Rec. If your student is in baseball/softball they can still attend. NO COST. We have great things planned this year: Fishing trip, Water Safety and Swimming, Powwow parade & community feast, Regalia making, Lacrosse, 4H Birchbark Canoe Build Camp, and 4H Chicken Egg Hatching. The Thunderbirds Boys Golf Team are 8A South Sub-Section Champions with a score of 321! Blake McMullen was the Individual Champion with a 73! Logan Abdo and Dylan McMullen tied for 3rd with a 82. Congratulations, boys!
