Junior High Envirothon 2025
September 30th
Detroit Mountain, Detroit Lakes

On September 30th, 2025, four teams of students from Waubun participated in the junior high Envirothon in Detroit Lakes at Detroit Mountain Recreation Area. The Envirothon is a competition where students are tested on their knowledge of the environment. Unlike the high school competition, they do not have to do an oral presentation. They are tested in five areas; Wildlife, Soils, Forestry, Wetlands and Current Events. The testing can take the form of a paper test, identification and the use of tools and equipment needed in the five areas.

34 teams from 8 schools participated in the competition. All four Waubun teams performed well, finishing in the top half of the competition. The team of Chloe Basswood-Fairbanks, Masen Hamilton, Dawson Abeldgaard, Tayveyah Barrientez and Carter Weaver-Heisler placed second in the competition.
