🍁 7th Grade Sugar Bushing at the School Forest 🍁 Our 7th graders recently experienced the incredible tradition of maple tapping at the School Forest! This hands-on learning opportunity brought together School Forest Teachers and 7th Grade Teachers, working in partnership to connect students with both the science of tree identification and the science behind what makes a sustainable maple tree.🌳🍂 During the experience, students: 🍁 Explored Ojibwe phenology, learning how seasonal changes signal the right time for tapping 🌲 Identified trees and gathered data to determine which were best for tapping 📏 Measured tree height, circumference, and health to ensure sustainable maple syrup production A huge thank you to our special guests for sharing their knowledge and guiding students through this process: ✨ Vince Olson - White Earth Education ✨ Jason Clark - Natural Resources Park ad Recreation ✨ Chris McDougall - Natural Resources Parks and Recreation Technician Since maple syrup production is rare and only possible in a few states, this was a unique and meaningful experience for our students. By blending cultural traditions with scientific exploration, we’re ensuring that future generations can continue to learn from and care for our forests. 🌿🍁 #MapleTapping #OutdoorLearning #SchoolForest #CulturalConnections #HandsOnEducation
