ummer Program Options Mahnomen County 4-H is excited to offer 3 different programs for youth to participate in during the 2021 Summer. The programs will happen twice a month during June, July and August and are free to Mahnomen 4-H members. Participants must be enrolled in 4-H by the time the programs begin. A minimum of 4 youth must register for programs to take place and there will be a 15 youth maximum for the program. Registration is first come, first served; the deadline for all the programs is Sunday, May 23rd. Photography Have an interest in photography? Take part in the summer Photography program to learn about the basics of photography. We will cover areas such as equipment, lighting and composition all the while building skills in photography. The program is for youth who have just completed grades 3rd through 9th grade. The program will take place on the first and second Thursdays of the month from 5:00pm to 6:30pm at the Mahnomen County Fairgrounds in the 4-H building. The June program will happen on the second and third thursday. The kids will learn about different STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) activities. We will have hands-on learning around weather, the five senses, making air work, the science of sound, the wonders of water and bubbles! The program is for kindergarten through 2nd grade. The program will take place on the first and second Tuesday of the month from 5:00pm to 6:30pm at the Mahnomen County Fairgrounds in the 4-H building. Want to learn more about crop production, soil science and agriculture in general? The Junior Agronomy Club is for youth who have just completed grades 3rd through 6th grade. They will follow a similar track to the Agronomy Club however it will be based on their ability and interest. The youth will get to take tours of local agricultural related facilities and learn from local experts. The program will take place on the first and second Wednesday of the month from 5:00pm to 6:30pm at the Mahnomen County Fairgrounds in the 4-H building. Nahlah was chosen as student of the month. Her teacher, Mrs. Bendson says, “Nahlah is a wonderful girl. She is bright and funny and creative. She has worked so super hard in class since returning to the classroom from Distance Learning. Nahlah has made progress in all areas of school, especially socially. Nahlah is a good friend and has learned how to navigate tricky situations with friends and classmates. Nahlah has become a true leader in the classroom and is always someone I can point out to be a role model to her peers. She works quickly and accurately and takes pride in doing great work. I can't say enough about how proud I am of Nahlah and all she has accomplished this year. Keep up the good work, Nahlah; I am proud of you!” Nahlah’s favorite part of school is playtime because she likes to play with her toy snake. Nahlah likes to learn about baby chicks, too. Nahlah is most thankful that she is a good sharer. At home, Nahlah likes to play with her dolls. She also likes to run around outside! Way to go, Nahlah!!

Rain was chosen for student of the month. Her teacher, Mrs. Peterson says, “Rain has returned to school from distance learning and has given great effort in all of her work. She has made great progress to continue to improve all of her skills this year. She never complains! Rain is very polite and is a friend to everyone. She is the first one to help if something needs to be done in the classroom. I have enjoyed getting to know Rain this year and am so proud of how far she's come!” Rain’s favorite part of school is playing on the spinomi at recess.
