Way to go Cady Clark and the Girls Golf Thunderbird Team

Mr. Skersick's zero-hour morning Lifters. Thanking them for their hard work and commitment to getting themselves better. They have made significant gains in the last few months

This week's cool, wet, and windy weather was not conducive for our "Outside Beach Reading Day" today, so we moved it indoors. The kids did a great job imagining we were on the beach, and then sharing what book they're reading with others. Hopefully, they check out some of the reading suggestions this summer.

The Thunderbirds boys' golf team are Section 8A South Sub-Section Runner-ups and advance to the Section tournament in Bemidji on May 28-29. Carter Clark finished 4th place with an 81. The Thunderbirds had 4 golfers in the top 10. Congratulations!

Ms. Ueke's 4th graders finished their acrylic birch tree paintings in art with Ms. Skersick!

Ogema Elementary had a Monday FUNday in the gym yesterday to celebrate our final week of school. We had a variety of games and activities for all the kids to enjoy, including traditional Ojibwe games, tattoos, and PLINKO, to name just a few! Every student received a few different prizes for participating and we ended with sno-cones (thank you to the PTSO!) :) There were LOTS of smiles and fun had by all!

Students from ECFE through 12th grade had the opportunity to plant six different seeds (Miiniikaan): Dragon Tongue Beans, Prebohaty Peas, Cilantro, Flat Leaf Parsley, Genovese Basil, and Salad Bowl Green Loose Leaf Lettuce. This initiative is in partnership with WETCC Extension, White Earth Nation Tribal Public Health, and supported by the Tribal Statewide Health Improvement Partnership grant from the Minnesota Department of Health. It aims to cultivate not just plants, but also young minds.

Here is some information about the different plants that students had the opportunity to plant. There is also some great information on seed saving. Enjoy!!
Gardening is more than just a hobby; it’s a powerful tool for children’s literacy development. As they engage in hands-on activities like planting, watering, and observing plant growth, students naturally develop essential literacy skills. From reading seed packets and plant labels to writing about their gardening experiences, every step in the garden nurtures their language and communication abilities. Gardening also fosters a deeper connection with nature, instilling a sense of wonder and curiosity that fuels their imagination and creativity. Through Kids in the Garden Intuitive, we sow the seeds of knowledge and literacy, nurturing a generation that thrives in both nature and learning.
