Essay and Poster Contest: In honor of Native American Heritage Month the Indian Education Department will he holding these contests in November, Grades 4-6: Native American Poster Contest- Due on November 25th- Any needed supplies can be picked up from your teacher… PRIZE: $25 Gift Card Grades 7-12: Essay Contest. Check your email for full details and the essay topic. Must be at least 2 paragraphs. Anyone who enters will receive extra credit in their English Class.. JH and SH winners each receive a $25 Gift Card. Due November 25th.

There will be Jr High Football practice today (Tuesday) and tomorrow in Mahnomen.

Homecoming coronation is Friday, October 30 at 12:00. Grades 9-12 and school staff, look for the King and Queen ballot in your email this week. Only two guests per candidate will be allowed to attend coronation. A Homecoming video will be shared on the school website for the rest of the community to watch on Friday.

Dear Waubun-Ogema-White-Earth Learning Community, Good afternoon, the time has come to transition to Distance Learning. We did not have enough substitute staff to cover our absences again today. This issue is “snowballing” for us. We cannot implement a learning model without the staff to run it. I know this is going to be a challenge for many of our families. We really have tried every option we could to keep students on site. We all agree this is where they learn best. COVID-19 and the issues it creates continues to create significant challenges. We have been struggling with staffing for a few weeks, but the last two weeks have been extremely difficult. There are many requirements around testing and close contact tracing intended to prevent the spread of the virus. We are following those protocols or requirements to protect our students and staff. In doing so, we are running into staffing and student attendance issues. As a results, we will need to make the shift to the Distance Learning Model for the following reasons: 1. We do not have the staff to implement the Hybrid model. First contact/Close Contact create 14 day leaves that we do not have sufficient staffing to cover for their absence. Increase of positive cases in the school are creating 14 day leaves that are impossible for us to fill. An increase of “two or more symptoms” is causing many staff to miss 3-5 days waiting for testing to return. While this is fewer days, combined with the two issues above, this is becoming impossible to cover these leaves. 2. Mahnomen, Becker, and White Earth case Counts per 10,000 are continuing to rise and are well above the Distance Learning threshold. Our case counts are now, in the 50s, 60s, and 70s. 30-50 is Distance Learning for secondary and 50 and higher is Distance Learning for Pk-12. We are beginning to see an increase in positive cases in students. This increases risk to all. Please see the schedule below: Distance Learning will begin on Tuesday, November 10, 2020. Last days Of Hybrid Learning: Attendance required to get equipment and materials-Monday, November 2, 2020 and Tuesday, November 3, 2020. Planning Days for staff: No school for students, No Tier1 Child Care or Food service Wednesday- Friday, November 3-6, 2020 Teacher In-service November 9, 2020: No school for students, No Tier 1 Child Care or Food Service Distance Learning starts: Tuesday, November 10, 2020: Tier 1 Child Care resumes. Thursday, November 12 and 17, Fall Conferences: via phone or Google meets Return to Hybrid Plan: We will be consider the following the indicators for the return to Hybrid: 1. Stabilized staff. Staff will be working on site. We will monitor the positive cases, testing, and first contact/close contact tracing. When staff is stabilized it will be a strong indicator for a transition back to Hybrid Learning. 2. School positive cases. We will work with public health employees to monitor our school positive case counts to measure the risk level of return. We do not want to return, put children and staff at risk, and then have to return to distance learning again right away. We will monitor our school cases to indicate the level of risk for return. 3. We will continue to meet on a regular basis with our local health partners to review all relevant data and information to return as soon as we can have a safe and stable return to Hybrid and then transition to In-person as case counts and safety allows. We are constantly monitoring our data. If our staffing stabilizes before November 10th, we will stay in the Hybrid model and cancel the transition. We also will watch for the County and Tribal case counts. If they are trending in the hybrid scale range that will also be an indicator that pandemic spread will be decreasing in our area. Today: JV Football game at East Grand Forks has been postponed.. ~ JH Volleyball vs Ada-Borup/West (@ Mahnomen) Volleyball game Monday, Oct 26 in Waubun vs LPA. Each player will get to invite 2 people, parent/guardian/adult preferably. Please provide a cell phone number where guests can be reached. We ask that when the girl that invites them is done with her game, they leave please. Also, please don't show up until the girl that you invite is scheduled to play. Fans will sit on the East side bleachers. Only the people that are invited and on the list will be admitted in. Masks and social distancing will be required!
