Dear Waubun-Ogema-White Earth Families:
Happy Winter,
With the upcoming dangerously cold weather we are asking that students are dressed appropriately. Please make sure they are wearing boots, hats, mittens or gloves, warm jackets and snow pants if available. On the bus routes, it is possible in extreme circumstances that a student may be sent back into the house to get dressed in winter gear and end up having to be driven in by parents. We need to work together to keep our children safe and dressed to match the weather.
Our main concern is the safety of our students. Please help us maintain their safety. Beyond the dangerously cold weather that is impending, during the winter months it is important that our students come appropriately dressed so that they may enjoy outside recess when the weather permits. We appreciate your cooperation with us and look forward to continuing our work together as One Team with One Goal of student success.
Thank you,
Waubun Ogema White Earth Administration Team

Our January The Seven Grandfather Teachings Awards: January was WISDOM- Nbwaakaawin: The Beaver
To cultivate knowledge is to know wisdom, which helps us make decisions that honor our well-being. This is represented by the beaver, who patiently uses his impressive teeth and creative mind to build sustainable communities. Be humble in knowing where you excel and what your limits are, and collaborate with others who have expertise you may lack.
The beaver represents wisdom because he uses his natural gift wisely for his survival, and changes his environment in an way that best suits his life and the life of his community. Like the beaver, we must realize that everyone has something to offer and skills that they can share with others. We must work hard to open our ears and our minds and respect our teachers, our parents, and others who want to share their wisdom with us. When we understand that everyone has something to share, we gain wisdom and become better people.

Congrats to the Girls Basketball team for their outstanding win over Park Chrisian last night. GO THUNDERBIRDS!

Hello all,
This year our 1st-3rd grade students will be participating in Jump Rope for Heart. Each day for gym class our students will be practicing their jump rope skills along with learning about what the heart does for our bodies and how the heart works. Students who decided to participate in the donation side of this activity took home a jump rope for heart envelope. These envelopes need to be returned Feb. 12, to Mr. Kemper. If you are able to, you can also access Jump rope for heart via the app Kids heart challenge or go to heart.org/KHC.
If you have any questions please contact Mr. Kemper.

General notification for families that a person in the school/child care/youth program community tested positive for COVID-19
Waubun-Ogema-White Earth Public School Sunday, January 31, 2021 Dear Families,
We were notified by the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) that a member of the Waubun Ogema- White Earth Public School community has tested positive for COVID-19. It is possible the person was able to spread the disease while in the community on this/these date(s) 1/21 amd 1/22. We cannot for privacy reasons share details about the person. At this time, they have been told to stay home and away from other people (in isolation) until they are well and can no longer spread the disease.
We have worked with MDH and White Earth Public Health to identify those who were in close contact with the person who tested positive for COVID-19, and have told them directly to stay home and/or to work from home for 7-14 days, even if they have a negative COVID-19 test during that time. This is how long it can take to show signs of the disease.
If you have not been contacted, your child is not considered a close contact, and there is nothing special you need to do.
Because the spread of COVID-19 from unknown sources is widespread in Minnesota, you should continue to watch your child for COVID-19 symptoms, which include:
▪ Fever of 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit or higher
▪ New cough or a cough that gets worse
▪ Difficulty/hard time breathing
▪ New loss of taste or smell
▪ Sore throat
▪ New nasal congestion/stuffy or runny nose
▪ Nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea
▪ Muscle pain
▪ Extreme fatigue/feeling very tired
▪ New severe/very bad headache
▪ Chills

GENERAL NOTIFICATION FOR FAMILIES
If your child gets symptoms, they should stay home and you should talk with their doctor or other health care provider to decide if they need to see a doctor and/or to get tested for COVID-19. Please review the following resources:
▪ Home Screening Tool for COVID-19 Symptoms (PDF)

▪ COVID-19 Attendance Guide for Parents and Families (PDF)

We understand that this news may make people feel uneasy. We have taken action to clean and sanitize the building and are working closely with MDH to watch the situation. We are asking all members of our community to lower the chance of spreading illness by taking the following actions:
▪ Protect yourself and others by wearing a face covering.
▪ Wash your hands often with soap and water.
▪ Cover your coughs and sneezes; do not touch your face with unwashed hands. ▪ If you are sick, stay home from school, child care, sports, and other activities.
▪ Clean all commonly touched surfaces often, such as telephones, doorknobs, countertops, etc. Resources that you may find helpful:

James was chosen for Student of the Month. His teacher, Mrs. Johnson says, “James has been working really hard on his work and doing his spelling words each week! James is so enthusiastic and excited to see all his teachers everyday, it's so refreshing! His handwriting has improved so much, and he's working so hard on his reading and math. James loves to sing and dance with his teachers in his google meets!”

Abraham was chosen as a Student of the Month. His teacher, Mrs. Bendson says, “Abraham works so hard and is always prepared for class. He is quiet and shy but became such a leader during Distance Learning, coming to class ready for the day, sharing with his classmates about his life, and always submitting his best work. Abraham is smart and kind and funny and wonderful in every way. I am so happy to have been your teacher, Abraham! Keep up the great work in Distance Learning!!”
