General notification for families that a person in the school/child care/youth program community tested positive for COVID-19
Waubun-Ogema-White Earth Public School Tuesday, March 16, 2021
Dear Families,
We were notified by the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) that a member of the Waubun-Ogema- White Earth Public School community has tested positive for COVID-19. It is possible the person was able to spread the disease while in the community on this/these date(s) 3/11/21, 3/12/21, and 3/15/21. We cannot for privacy reasons share details about the person. At this time, they have been told to stay home and away from other people (in isolation) until they are well and can no longer spread the disease.
We have worked with MDH and White Earth Public Health to identify those who were in close contact with the person who tested positive for COVID-19 and have told them directly to stay home and/or to work from home for 7-14 days, even if they have a negative COVID-19 test during that time. This is how long it can take to show signs of the disease.
If you have not been contacted, your child is not considered a close contact, and there is nothing special you need to do.
Because the spread of COVID-19 from unknown sources is widespread in Minnesota, you should continue to watch your child for COVID-19 symptoms, which include:
Fever of 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit or higher
New cough or a cough that gets worse
Difficulty/hard time breathing
New loss of taste or smell
Sore throat
New nasal congestion/stuffy or runny nose
Nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea
Muscle pain
Extreme fatigue/feeling very tired
New severe/very bad headache
Chills
If your child gets symptoms, they should stay home and you should talk with their doctor or other health care provider to decide if they need to see a doctor and/or to get tested for COVID-19. Please review the following resources:
Home Screening Tool for COVID-19 Symptoms (PDF) (https://www.health.state.mn.us/diseases/coronavirus/schools/homescreen.pdf)
COVID-19 Attendance Guide for Parents and Families (PDF) (https://www.health.state.mn.us/diseases/coronavirus/schools/attendance.pdf)
We understand that this news may make people feel uneasy. We have taken action to clean and sanitize the building and are working closely with MDH to watch the situation. We are asking all members of our community to lower the chance of spreading illness by taking the following actions:
Protect yourself and others by wearing a face covering.
Wash your hands often with soap and water.
Cover your coughs and sneezes; do not touch your face with unwashed hands.
If you are sick, stay home from school, child care, sports, and other activities.
Clean all commonly touched surfaces often, such as telephones, doorknobs, countertops, etc.

Word of the day

1st graders learned what it is like to be an architect. They used toothpicks and marshmallows to make igloos in Mrs. Fabre's STEAM class.

Hudson's name was randomly drawn during our school assembly. For his prize, he chose to play a game with Mr. Peterson. We hope you had so much fun, Hudson! Congratulations!

Dear Waubun Ogema White Earth Schools Community,
It has been a year since we have been handling COVID-19 together. We want to thank you for your support during this year. We were graced with an abundance of opportunities to learn, grow and lean in as One Team with One Goal.

Lola was chosen for Student of the Month. Her teacher, Mrs. Jorud says, “I chose Lola for February's Student of the Month because she has a great love for learning. Lola is always fun to have in class. She is kind, respectful, and always contributes in a positive way. She is a conscientious student and always tries to do her best. Lola has maintained a positive attitude, during this whole year, and shows what it takes to be a great Thunderbird!”
Lola’s favorite part of school is math because it is fun. She especially enjoys learning division. Lola is most thankful for her family. She says she will love them forever. She loves to do her nails with her mom, sister, and sometimes her brother. Lola plays on the trampoline at home. She can do a front flip, front handsprings, and the splits. Lola loves gymnastics and dance!!
Thanks for being so awesome, Lola! Keep being you!

Kolton was chosen as Student of the Month. His teacher Mr. Lenzen says, “Kolton was chosen as student of the month by his peers. Kolton displays all aspects of Ogema PRIDE on a regular basis. Kolton goes beyond being respectful with his classmates and truly treats them with kindness and love. Kolton's patience while working with others is that of a person many years his senior. His classmates picked a perfect recipient for this month's Student of the Month.”
Kolton loves playing outside the most at school. Him and his friends play soccer. Kolton is most thankful for his life: being able to play, his family, and his cool Grandpa Bomber. Kolton likes to play on the xbox and play with his friends at home.
Kolton, you have such a kind, generous heart! Keep up the amazing work

Jake's was randomly chosen at the school assembly! He chose to make a special art project with Miss Skersick, called pendulum painting. What a great color choice!
