The Waubun Envirothon team met at Mr. Shortś house to go over classifying soils and rocks. They spent the majority of the time learning to classify soils by feel. The samples they tested ranged across the soil spectrum starting with a loam from west of Waubun, clay from east of White Earth and a sandy loam from between White Earth and Ogema. The tests they practiced were the moist cast test, the ribbon test, the feel test and the shine test.

Here is the week's schedule for July 10-13 for Summer Rec Baseball/Softball. There will be no busing at the normal pickup/drop up stops. Busing to and from away games, board the bus at SB fields or the School. Any questions please call the office at 473-6173.

Tuesday evening, June 27th, the Waubun Envirothon team practiced water quality testing in preparation for competing at the North American Envirothon. The Waubun team, representing the state of Minnesota, will be leaving July 21st for New Brunswick, Canada. The competition will be from July 23 thru July 28th.
Reminder Summer Rec Picture Day is tomorrow at 9:30 at the SB fields. Coaches have the picture forms and are handing them out this week at games.
Little League Baseball in Ulen is still happening today (bus leaves SB fields @ 8:30/8:40 school. Game time is 9:30/10:30

For the last five years, seniors from Waubun high school have participated in an internship with the University of Minnesotaś research station at Itasca Park. This year, Justice Alvarado spent three weeks working with grad students from the U of M, completing the GeoForest project, sponsored by the Smithsonian Institute, and set up on 16 hectares of land deep in the forest. On Thursday, June 22nd, Justice presented to family, friends and scholars what the project is, what her roles have been for the last three weeks and the take-aways she got from her experience.
