General notification for families that a person in the school community tested positive for COVID-19 Waubun-Ogema-White Earth Public School Monday, November 30, 2020 Dear Families, We were notified by the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) that a member of the Waubun-Ogema- White Earth Public School community has tested positive for COVID-19. It is possible the person was able to spread the disease while in the community on this/these date(s) 11/23 and 11/24. We cannot for privacy reasons share details about the person. At this time, they have been told to stay home and away from other people (in isolation) until they are well and can no longer spread the disease. Nevaeh was chosen for October Student of the Month! Nevaeh’s teacher, Mrs. Skersick says, “Nevaeh has been an outstanding student. She comes to google meets prepared and ready to work. She is very patient and kind, always an outstanding friend. She sticks around after google meets just to talk to her friends and even the teacher. She makes sure all her assignments are turned in, in a timely manner. Nevaeh makes sure that when she needs help she will patiently wait and ask for it. I am so grateful to have Nevaeh as part of my class this year. Keep up the great work Nevaeh, and share all the kindness that you have to offer.” Nevaeh is most thankful for her family because they are always there for her when she needs them. Nevaeh’s favorite part of school is spending time with friends. Her and her friends like to play games like hide and seek and tag. Nevaeh likes reading. Her favorites are the Owl Diary series. Her favorite food is noodle soup. Nevaeh, you are such a hard worker and kind child! Keep working so hard!

Dear Families, Students, and Staff, We were notified by the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) of a lab of a confirmed case of COVID-19 (novel coronavirus) in a member of the Waubun school community with no exposure in our school community. For privacy reasons, we cannot share details about the status of the individual. At this time, they have each been advised to stay home and away from other people (isolate). We have worked with the MDH to identify those who had close contact with the case, and have communicated with them individually. The risk of exposure for other individuals present in the building on that date is no greater than the risk of contracting the virus in the general community. If you were not identified to have close contact with the positive case you should still monitor for symptoms of illness, but do not need to stay home unless symptoms develop. If symptoms develop, stay home and consult with your physician to determine if medical evaluation is needed. We are working closely with MDH to monitor the situation. Waubun Distance Learning Plan Purpose: The purpose of distance learning is to provide meaningful, equitable learning with an alternative delivery method for all students during the COVID-19 outbreak. This plan may be adjusted to meet future distance learning needs as needed. Attendance Students are expected to attend google meet sessions and work on school work daily. This will involve synchronous (direct instruction with real time learning) and asynchronous work (learning activities that can be completed and learned independently). Much like the traditional setting, attendance is required and will be monitored. Students and parents/guardians are still under the compulsory attendance rules. (Please see chart) Example: A student may need to be online to receive math instruction from 9:00-9:45 each day. There may also be a social studies project that is to be completed on the student’s own time over the course of several weeks. Teachers will track student attendance daily. Attendance will be tracked through student interaction including but not limited to attendance at required class meetings, phone call, text message, email correspondence, logging into various platforms, or completed assignments/work packets. It is vitally important that parents/guardians know the attendance requirement for their students.Students for whom no teacher has direct interaction on a given day are reported as absent for that day.Teachers will notify administration after documenting multiple attempts to contact student and parent, if students are not attending meetings, completing work, or daily check ins. 3. .Teacher Expectations Teachers will be in attendance at school. Teachers are expected to be online in a synchronous format with students daily. Teachers will instruct and be available to students on Google Meet daily. At the secondary level that will mean hosting a Google Meet for each hour of the day, every day. At the elementary level, that will mean teaching literacy and math, both whole and small group, daily. Secondary teachers will be engaged with students in a synchronous format minimally 25 minutes of each hour. Teachers would be expected to respond to student emails and communicate as needed with students and families. Teachers will utilize Google Classroom and SeeSaw as our primary platforms for instruction. Teachers will update gradebooks weekly. Teachers will update attendance records daily. Teachers will make attempts to communicate with students and families regarding student performance. This will include emailing the student, emailing the parent, making phone calls to all numbers available for the family, referring the student to administration after the other options are attempted. Teachers will document contact attempts to students and families in Synergy. Teachers will work from their classrooms in the school daily. Students will utilize the intervention team and help line for additional help and services if their students or families are struggling. Notify administration about internet and device challenges your students and families are having. Teachers will follow PPE, Social Distancing guidelines, and Cleaning Protocols as outlined in the COVID-19 Operational Manual for All Staff. 4. Student Expectations a. Students will attend class meetings daily (attendance will be taken). Students must log in within the first ten minutes of class. b. Students will complete course work in a timely manner. Coursework is expected and will be tied to achievement. If students do not participate or pass their coursework, it may lead to retention, summer school or credit recovery. Students will reach out for assistance if needed. Students will keep the time from 8:10-3:20 available for school, as they would if school were physically in session. Students will reach out to and support classmates who are struggling with distance learning on their home learning days. Students will utilize the intervention team and help line for additional help and services if they or their families are struggling. Students will expect to work for this amount of time on remote learning days: Elementary: At least 1-2 hours per day. Secondary: At least 25 minutes per class. If Students are required to be on school campus for any purpose, they will be required to follow PPE, Social Distancing guidelines, and Cleaning Protocols as outlined in the Reopening guidelines. 5. Parent Expectations Parents will help students prioritize their time. Parents will encourage students to meet expectations. Parents will communicate concerns to teachers, support staff, and administration. Parents will utilize the intervention team and help line for additional help and services if they

11/24/20 MEAL DELIVERY UPDATE All White Earth site meal pick ups will be tomorrow, Wednesday November 25th, since Thursday is a holiday. Thank you.

MEAL DELIVERY UPDATE We are starting the process of transitioning to be able to do home delivery of meals. This change is scheduled to begin as of December 7th. To start delivery on that date you must complete the new registration by the morning of 12/2. If you are currently enrolled to pick up meals please complete the new registration so we know if you are opting to have meals delivered to your home or would like to continue utilizing a pick up location. The new schedule and locations starting 12/7 are: Ogema School site pick up - Monday 4:30-5:30 pm Waubun School site pick up - Monday 4:30-5:30 pm White Earth site pick up - Monday 4:30-5:30 pm at the community center parking lot Home Deliveries - during the day Tues, Wed & Thurs You will be notified what day and approximate time your home delivery of meals will be once routes are set up. There will also be a consent form that will need to be filled out and signed by the parent/guardian in order for us to be able to do home delivery. Isaiah was chosen as October Student of the Month. His teacher, Mrs. Johnson says, “Isaiah is a hard working student. He is always getting his work done and trying his hardest to do his best work. He attends all the google meets and participates in them. He is always smiling and being kind to his classmates over google meet. He has great Thunderbird Pride and I am so lucky to be his teacher!” Isaiah is most thankful for his family because they are very important to him. Isaiah said they are fun to play with. His favorite part of regular school is recess and playing on the playground. His favorite part of virtual learning is that it is really easy. Isaiah likes to play games like Minecraft and tag with his brothers. Isaiah, you are such a wonderful child!!

Dalton was chosen as October Student of the Month. His teacher, Mrs. Brininger says, “I chose Dalton as student of the month because he is a ray of sunshine in our distance learning class! He is always excited to join our google meets, he has a positive attitude toward everything, he participates in our activities, (especially the songs), and he completes all of his work on time! He has a kind heart and loves giving people compliments. Way to go, Dalton!” Dalton is most thankful for giving people the pictures he draws. He draws hearts and “Bendy the Ink Machine” to give to his family and friends. His favorite part of school is letter tracing because he loves the letters. Right now he is learning the letter “I”. Dalton has lots of interesting facts about himself. He loves the color black so he can draw his favorite video game. His favorite costume is Bendy and the Ink Machine. He loves Transformers, especially Optimus Prime! Dalton, you are so appreciated at Ogema Elementary. Keep up the good work!!
