Hello Everyone, and Happy Holidays
Here is an update on our Learning model!

Dear Waubun-Ogema-White Earth Families,
Happy Holidays! I hope this finds you in good spirits and in good health. I have included some end of month data, current data, and a couple of topic updates today. If you have any questions please contact me.
COVID-19 update for the Month of November:
Staff: We had 65 staff out for COVID related reasons: 5 positive cases, 36 close contacts, 14 were out for testing for two or more symptoms, 2 were family-related, and 8 were related to childcare/daycare positive cases.
Students: We had 81 students impacted: 60 close contacts and 21 positive cases.
Overall update: We have no significant school spread. We had a small spread in an after school activity, but not during the school day. Our primary issue continues to be staffing and growing county and tribal numbers. Our student positives are happening mostly within family groups. We did send home a grade level tier one child care classroom along with the impacted staff. We did that because they were in close contact with one positive case, not because they were all positive cases.
Local health officials have shared that they are starting to see more children test positive and transmit COVID-19 to their families and other children and adults. Some are asymptomatic and are not aware they even have it. So please continue to reinforce all of the safety protocols for yourself and your children to keep everyone safe.
CDC guidelines: The Minnesota Department of Health came out with updated guidelines following the CDC’s lead. It states that 14 days is still the best practice but it does allow 10 days and in some cases 7 days for quarantine in specific circumstances. They are developing more specific guidance materials and visuals for us, but this change may help with our staffing issues and attendance. However, this will only be effective if we use all the other safety protocols such as social distancing, hand washing, sanitizing, and limiting our interactions with others at school or work, along with the shortened quarantines. https://www.health.state.mn.us/diseases/coronavirus/quarguide.pdf
Also, we, as a school and community, need to be careful who we are interacting with outside of our work and home. Who is in your “bubble”? If they are not, use the precautions listed above. Video chats may not be the best, but they may be the best for now.
Meal plan changes: We have sent numerous messages out about the meal plan change that went into effect this week. The meals are free to everyone that signs up, but we still need you to complete the Free and reduced lunch application. It helps the District with funding that gives resources to our neediest learners and is used for many other areas to determine financial needs for each individual student such as scholarships and waived or reduced fees. Even if you were already receiving meals this year, you will need to re-register, because we added a home delivery option and changed a couple of the pickup options. Make sure to sign up by Thursday at 3:30 to start meals the following week. Otherwise, you need to wait until the following week to start services. If you have any questions call the District office at 218-473-6171.

General notification for families that a person in the school program community tested positive for COVID-19
Waubun-Ogema-White Earth Public School Wednesday, December 9, 2020
Dear Families,
We were notified by the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) that a member of the Waubun-Ogema-White Earth Public School community has tested positive for COVID-19. No dates have been identified for potential school community spread. We cannot for privacy reasons share details about the person. At this time, they are staying home and/or working at home until they are well and can no longer spread the disease.
We have worked with MDH to identify those who were in close contact with the person who tested positive for COVID-19, and no close contacts have been identified in our school community.
If you have not been contacted, your child is not considered a close contact, and there is nothing special you need to do.
Because the spread of COVID-19 from unknown sources is widespread in Minnesota, you should continue to watch your child for COVID-19 symptoms, which include:
Fever of 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit or higher
New cough or a cough that gets worse
Difficulty/hard time breathing
New loss of taste or smell
Sore throat
New nasal congestion/stuffy or runny nose
Nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea
Muscle pain
Extreme fatigue/feeling very tired
New severe/very bad headache
Chills
If your child gets symptoms, they should stay home and you should talk with their doctor or other health care provider to decide if they need to see a doctor and/or to get tested for COVID-19. Please review the following resources:

We understand that this news may make people feel uneasy. We have taken action to clean and sanitize the building and are working closely with MDH to watch the situation. We are asking all members of our community to lower the chance of spreading illness by taking the following actions:
Protect yourself and others by wearing a face covering.
Wash your hands often with soap and water.
Cover your coughs and sneezes; do not touch your face with unwashed hands.
If you are sick, stay home from school, child care, sports, and other activities.
Clean all commonly touched surfaces often, such as telephones, doorknobs, countertops, etc.
