For the last five years, seniors from Waubun high school have participated in an internship with the University of Minnesotaś research station at Itasca Park. This year, Justice Alvarado spent three weeks working with grad students from the U of M, completing the GeoForest project, sponsored by the Smithsonian Institute, and set up on 16 hectares of land deep in the forest. On Thursday, June 22nd, Justice presented to family, friends and scholars what the project is, what her roles have been for the last three weeks and the take-aways she got from her experience.

Summer Reading Ideas. Reading, in general, is highly effective at building up a child's knowledge in a vast amount of subject areas, including English, math, science, and history.


The Waubun Envirothon team worked on freshwater mussel identification/anatomy and aquatic macroinvertebrate identification to determine the health of aquatic ecosystems based on biotic factors Tuesday night at the school forest. They leave for the North American Envirothon in New Brunswick Canada July 21st.
