Dear ISD #435 Families and Staff,
This afternoon, a fire started in the mechanical room of Ogema Elementary School. The fire was contained within the mechanical room and was extinguished quickly. However, high levels of smoke spread throughout various parts of the building, causing the environment to be deemed unsafe. As a result, there will be no school tomorrow, November 13th for Ogema Elementary (Grades PreK-3) and the building will remain closed for the day. The Waubun campus (Grades 4-12) will have a regularly scheduled school day. While we understand this may be a major inconvenience for many, please know that the safety of our students and staff is our top priority. We are thankful for the quick response and efforts of the Ogema Fire Department, Waubun Fire Department, White Earth Fire Department, Callaway Fire Department, Mahnomen Fire Department, White Earth Police Department, Ottertail Electric, and ACE Electric. We will continue to provide updates on the building as we gather more information.
Sincerely,
Jordan Spaeth, Superintendent
