Dear Staff, Parents, and Students, 01/09/20
Students at the Waubun School site were called into Lockdown following a terroristic threat today, Thursday, January, 9, 2020 at 2:10pm. The threat response by administration and law enforcement was very quick and the student was removed from the premise by law enforcement. An investigation is ongoing. So along with the Mahnomen County Sheriff Department, and Administrative Staff a search was completed and students were safely returned to their routine schedule at 3:06 pm.
A full investigation of the threat will continue. Threatening the safety of our learning community is a serious offense. Disrupting our learning environment is not acceptable. We will be working with law enforcement officials to find closure to this issue. I want to thank our staff, administration, students, parents, and law enforcement for their quick response, cooperation, and patience.

Sports/Activities-
Friday: Wrestling Dual Tourney @ Mahnomen (4pm start) (please excuse @ 2pm)
Saturday: Elementary Basketball @ East Grand Forks - Elementary Basketball bus will leave Waubun at 6:30am and Mahnomen at 6:45am for kids that need a ride on Saturday. Players are encouraged to ride with parents as the bus will get full and it will be a LONG day, with multiple teams playing at different times.
We have communicated with coaches to work with students and families who need to leave early or miss practice to attend the wake of Clayton Lehrke. Please notify the coaches of your plans and we will respect your wishes. Practices will be done in time for those that chose to attend after practice. Rich Zima is volunteering to drive a bus for athletes that want to go show support. Athletes will make a short appearance. Bus will be leaving Waubun Gym at 5:30 and back about 6:00. This is all voluntary for the kids that choose to go.

There will not be any Climber Club after school at Ogema this week. Climber Club will start again on January 6th.
It is with deepest sorrow we share the news that Clayton Lehrke, son of Angie and Tim Lehrke, died on Friday, December 27, 2019. It has been confirmed that his passing was due to natural causes. While that brings no answers, it also helps us know there was nothing to be done to prevent the outcome. Clayton was a senior at Detroit Lakes High School. The loss of Clayton’s life has a tremendous impact on the Waubun-Ogema-White Earth School, the Detroit Lakes School and surrounding communities. It is important that we support Clayton’s family, our students, staff, parents, and each other as we grieve this tragic loss. We will provide additional support staff and counseling services as students and staff return to classes on January 2nd. For additional support and services the Becker County and White Earth Reservation Mental Health 24 hour crisis and support hotline is available to parents, students, staff, and anyone needing support.
