Mentor program

February marks the beginning of the new Mentor Program at WHS.

  • 11th and 12th grade students who demonstrate solid academic and life skills are partnered with a 6th, 7th, or 8th grader, who would benefit from interactions w/an older peer to learn the skills that will help them succeed.
  • The activity last week was an ice-breaker, where mentors and mentees did a "speed-meet" to find shared interests. This allowed the mentors and mentees to get to know each other before we started the mentoring sessions.
  • The mentors are asked to meet with their mentees at least once a week, and there are plans to have activities and possibly field trips throughout the remainder of the year.
  • The program is being developed collaboratively between members of our staff and on-site White Earth Mental Health workers.
