Ricing

On September 12th students from Waubun High School attended a Ricing Demo lead by Jason Clark at Tamarac Lake area.  Ojibwe and Culture teacher Lera Hephner accompanied the students who learned all about Ricing and even got to try it for themselves.  This event is something the WOWE Indian Education program plans to bring back every year for our WOWE students.  Thank you to Jason Clark for the opportunity and taking the time to work with the students.

Wild rice, or manoomin (good seed) in Ojibwe, is sacred to Indigenous peoples in the Great Lakes region, because it's part of their creation story — and because for centuries it staved off starvation during harsh winters
